Solutions to common issues with acetab.

Extension Not Loading

Symptoms

  • New tab shows default Chrome page
  • acetab doesn’t appear

Solutions

  1. Check if extension is enabled

    • Go to chrome://extensions
    • Find acetab
    • Ensure toggle is ON
  2. Reinstall the extension

    • Remove acetab from extensions
    • Reinstall from Chrome Web Store
    • Open a new tab
  3. Check for conflicts

    • Disable other new tab extensions
    • acetab needs to be the only new tab override

Widgets Not Updating

Weather/Stocks/RSS not refreshing?

  1. Check internet connection

    • Widgets need internet to fetch data
  2. Manual refresh

    • Close and reopen the tab
    • Or click the refresh icon on the widget
  3. Check widget settings

    • Verify URLs/locations are correct
    • Try a different RSS feed to test

Rate Limits

Free API services have limits. If you see errors:

  • Wait a few minutes and try again
  • Reduce refresh frequency in settings

Data Not Saving

Changes disappearing?

  1. Storage quota

    • Chrome has storage limits
    • Try removing unused screens/widgets
  2. Browser settings

    • Ensure browser isn’t blocking extension storage
    • Check you’re not in incognito mode
  3. Export as backup

    • Always keep a recent export
    • Import to restore if issues occur

Weather Shows Wrong Location

  1. Click settings on weather widget
  2. Be specific: “London, UK” not just “London”
  3. Use coordinates for precision
  4. Save and wait for update

RSS Feeds Not Working

Common causes:

  1. Invalid feed URL

    • Verify the URL works in a browser
    • Ensure it’s an RSS/Atom feed, not a webpage
  2. CORS restrictions

    • Some feeds block browser access
    • Try a different feed from the same site
  3. Feed format issues

    • Some non-standard feeds may not parse
    • Major sites (BBC, TechCrunch) work reliably

Performance Issues

Dashboard feels slow?

  1. Reduce widgets

    • Each widget uses resources
    • Remove unused widgets
  2. Simplify backgrounds

    • Use solid colors instead of images
    • Avoid very large custom images
  3. Clear old data

    • Export your config
    • Uninstall/reinstall
    • Import your config
